We are looking for an experienced truck driver for a busy steel company to deliver plate, sheet and bar to customers all over the Midwest.  Applicant must not be afraid to work, be reliable, flexible, and want to make money!

Responsibilities

  • Transport steel bar, plate, sheets
  • Able to perform pre and post trip inspections and perform basic preventative maintenance.
  • Plan routes to meet promised delivery schedules
  • Familiar with and able to use E-Logs. (currently use Geotab)
  • Responsible with paperwork such as delivery/BOLs, expense and fuel receipts
  • Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions.
  • Most all loads will be loaded for you. Some will require tarping. 
  • Collect and verify delivery instructions
  • Report defects, accidents or violations
  • M-F and home almost every single night! Maybe once a month there might be an overnight stay or weekend work.  Hotel accommodations and food paid by company.

Skills

  • Proven work experience as a truck driver
  • Customer Service – You don’t have to be Santa or a saint, but you also do have to be respectful, accommodating and friendly to our venders and customers.
  • Experience in steel hauling preferred, but not required.
  • Hands on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS, E-Logs)
  • You’re a truck driver, so I shouldn’t have to say it, but must have an ability to drive long hours and travel regularly – if can’t, maybe Uber would be better for you?
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations
  • Some drop-off locations are tight and require a skilled driver.
  • No recent moving or driving violations
  • Ability to stand, stoop, crouch, climb. Able to lift 50# without issue (tarp)
  • Able to pass CDL physical and drug test
  • Ability to handle and anticipate unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions etc)
  • Valid CDL-B or CDL-A license
